Photo:

Shop/wine critic/winery review:
This bright, soft Merlot comes from a hilly vineyard on the Alcesti family estate in beautiful Sicily. It has hints of red cherries and freshly cut hay. Exceptional value.
My Review:
This Merlot presents a slightly dark purply crimson color, and the nose carries slight hints of wood... Just kidding, the nose is WOOD!... Like you stuck your head in a barrel and started sniffing around, that level of WOOD!!! Moving on, the wine is very oaky/smokey upon tasting and has some slight hints of cherry and earthiness, but I really can't stress the WOOD enough. The Oak (I'm assuming this must have been oaked) really overpowers any other elements of the wine, and I can only conclude that this is what Gary V. also mean when he talked about the OAK MONSTER. Still, this is drinkable, but you know, only if you like drinking toothpicks. 73/100
