Tasting - Jam Jar Sweet White 2011

Photo:

Name: Jam Jar Sweet White
Variety: Muscat
Region: Western Cape
Country: South Africa
Year: 2011
Price: $8.95

Shop/wine critic/winery review:
100 % Muscat. Soft floral hints add depth to the otherwise straightforward ripe peach and nectarine aromas. There’s a good balance in the mouth, with a nice acidic lift and slightly lime edge to cut the sweetness on the finish and close with the faintest hint of honeydew melons.

My Review
This wine presents a strong yellow-gold color. On the nose, there's a delightful mix of peach, honey, green grape (surprising! I know), floral, and a bit of citrus. Upon tasting, this wine is sweet, fruity, and slightly sour/acidic (especially after the initial taste). There are hints of citrus here as well. This wine is well balanced. It provides a nice mouth feel, it is clean and refreshing, but it is still present and noticeable. Overall, this wine is quite nice. 80-81/100

Tasting - Entrada Malbec 2013

Photo:

Name: Entrada Malbec
Variety: Malbec
Region: Nancagua
Country: Chile
Year: 2013
Price: $5.95

Shop/wine critic/winery review:
Firm and structured, this is a solid wine, laced with mineral acidity and tight tannins. It has a juicy, blackberry fruit component cutting through the texture.

My Review
This wine has a dark purpley crimson color. The nose carries notes of alcohol, plum/prune, and a bit of blackberry. Upon tasting, this wine carries a slight smokiness, and noticeable tannins. The wine is crisp, a little heavy (which I think is good), and has a little berry on the finish. It's a nice wine, but not terribly complex. 76-77/100

Tasting - Vina Borga Borsao 2012

Name: Vina Borga Borsao
Variety: Grenache
Region: Campo de Borja
Country: Spain
Year: 2012
Price: $6.95

     86 Points – Robert Parker
Also made from 100% Grenache, the 2012 Vina Borgia was fermented and aged in stainless steel. Its medium dark ruby color is followed by abundant notes of strawberries and black cherries offered in a straightforward, medium-bodied, soft, hedonistic, round style. It is hard to believe a wine this good can sell for $7 a bottle. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.

My Review
This wine presents a dark crimson/bloody color, which is rather nice. The nose carries notes of alcohol, red fruit, strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. Upon tasting, there is a smoky oakiness and strong tannins. There is a nice fruity finish, but this wine is not overall terribly complex. 77-78/100
