My name is Michael, and I am a student in John Boyer's spring 2014 GEOG 4054 Geography of Wine course. To get this all started, let me explain my background with wine.
The first time I had wine was in Italy in 2008. I had some white wine which I don't recall any other details about, a Chianti from a vineyard next to Barabrino Val d'Elsa and another Chianti of some kind at a restaurant in Rome. Since then, I rarely drink wine. I went to Fork and Cork in 2012, and I have had wine at a couple of dinners (usually family celebrations).
Currently I seem to prefer red wines, though that is certainly subject to change as I have not really developed a taste for wine yet. As such, I am still not quite sure what elements I do or don't like in various wines.
I hope through this course to develop a taste for wine, and to learn what to expect from various types of wines. I also hope to learn what types of wine I personally like, so that I can make informed decisions in the future based on that knowledge and hopefully be able to share my experiences with wine.
